What should I do if the key to a SentrySafe is lost?

Answer

If you still have the combination, open the safe with the dial or keypad first, then order a replacement key from SentrySafe using the model and serial information on the safe. If both the key and combination are unavailable, you usually need the manufacturer’s locked-out recovery process or a locksmith who works with that safe type.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Ignore strangers offering remote unlock codes or asking for payment outside the manufacturer’s official process.

Follow these steps

  1. Try the combination if you still have it

If you remember the combination or electronic code, open the safe with that method instead of the missing key.

You should see: The safe opens, or you confirm that combination access is also blocked.

  2. Record the model and serial number

With the door open, or from any visible label on the exterior, write down the exact model name and serial number stamped on the safe.

You should see: You have the identifiers needed to order a replacement key or start lockout recovery.

  3. Request a replacement key through official support

Contact SentrySafe through the company’s official website support or customer service path and follow their replacement-key process for your model.

You should see: You receive instructions or confirmation for ordering a matching replacement key.

  4. Use lockout recovery if the combination is also unknown

If both the key and combination are unavailable, follow SentrySafe’s official lost-combination or lockout steps for that model, or hire a locksmith experienced with consumer safes.

You should see: You have a documented recovery path without forcing or damaging the safe unnecessarily.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether you still know the combination, the exact SentrySafe model name, and any serial number stamped on the safe or door

Before you change anything: Confirm whether the combination still opens the safe before trying any forced entry. Write down the model and serial number from the safe body or door edge if you can see them. Use only SentrySafe’s official support or a qualified locksmith—avoid random online “master key” offers. Never share ownership documents or ID with someone who contacts you unexpectedly about the safe.
