Why won't a Waterpik WP587 charge or show any lights?
Answer
When a Waterpik WP587 shows no lights while charging, first remove metal or magnetic accessories, then power-reset the charger connection. If it still stays dark after a full overnight charge, the base or battery usually needs warranty or replacement service.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not pry open the unit or battery area; sealed battery repairs can be unsafe and may void warranty.
- Keep charging contacts dry and unplug the charger before cleaning around the base.
Follow these steps
Remove metal or magnetic accessories
Take off any case, clip, stand, or accessory on the Waterpik that may contain metal or magnets, then seat the unit firmly on the charging base.
You should see: The unit sits flat on the base with nothing blocking the charging contacts.
Power-reset the charger connection
Unplug the charger from both the wall and the Waterpik, wait about 5 minutes, then reconnect the charger to the wall first and place the unit back on the base.
You should see: You see a charging light, or the unit remains dark so you know a deeper charge test is needed.
Try a known-good outlet
Plug the charger into a different outlet that you know works with another device, and confirm the plug feels secure.
You should see: The outlet and plug connection are ruled in or out as the cause.
Leave it on a full charge cycle
Leave the Waterpik on the charger for a full charge period of about 8 hours, not just a short 30-minute test, then check for lights or normal power-on.
You should see: A charging or ready light appears, or the unit still shows no response after the long charge.
Contact Waterpik support if it stays dark
If there are still no lights after the full charge, contact Waterpik support or the retailer with the model number and purchase date about warranty or replacement options.
You should see: You have a clear next path for repair, replacement, or return.

Extra tips
What to look for: Model WP587W or WP587C, no charging lights at all, and whether any case, clip, or metal accessory is attached near the charger.
Before you change anything: Confirm the model on the unit label is WP587W or WP587C. Try a different wall outlet you know works with another device. Use only the charger that came with the Waterpik or an official replacement. Do not open the sealed battery compartment or soak electrical contacts.
