How do I make a Boss FS-5U foot switch control the Dual Cube LX looper?

Answer

The FS-5U usually needs a 1/4-inch TRS stereo cable (or an adaptor that lands the switch on the FOOT SW jack’s ring contact). For the editor, try USB instead of Bluetooth if the wireless MIDI link will not connect.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not force odd DIY wiring that shorts tip and ring together; use a proper TRS cable or adaptor intended for this jack.

Follow these steps

  1. Use a TRS cable into FOOT SW

Connect the FS-5U to the Dual Cube LX FOOT SW jack with a 1/4-inch TRS stereo cable, or a wiring/adaptor setup that puts the FS-5U on the ring side of that jack. A plain TS mono cable often will not trigger looper mode correctly.

You should see: The foot switch is physically seated in FOOT SW with TRS (or equivalent ring) wiring.

  2. Test looper with the foot switch

Power the amp on, then press the FS-5U and listen/watch for looper record, play, or stop behavior according to the Dual Cube LX foot-switch functions in the manual.

You should see: Pressing the switch changes looper state instead of doing nothing.

  3. Connect the editor over USB if Bluetooth fails

If the Dual Cube LX Editor will not connect via Bluetooth MIDI, connect the amp to your computer or supported device with USB and open the editor again. Avoid chasing Bluetooth pairing until USB proves the amp and editor work.

You should see: The editor detects the Dual Cube LX over USB, or you get a clear connection error to check next.

  4. Recheck FS-5U mode and cable if still stuck

Confirm the FS-5U tip/ring switch and latch settings match what the Dual Cube LX expects for looper control, then retry with another TRS cable before assuming the amp jack is faulty.

You should see: Either looper control works, or you have isolated a bad cable, wrong FS-5U setting, or hardware fault.

Extra tips

What to look for: FOOT SW jack wiring, a TRS vs TS cable, Dual Cube LX Editor MIDI connection status over Bluetooth or USB.

Before you change anything: Confirm you have a Dual Cube LX and an FS-5U (latch or unlatch mode as needed). Use a known-good TRS cable before buying adapters. Prefer USB for editor setup if Bluetooth MIDI is unreliable on your phone or computer. Never share account passwords with unexpected callers.
