How do I fix a CPAP machine that will not power on or blow air?
Answer
When a CPAP will not start or blow air, the usual causes are a loose power connection, a failing adapter or cord, or a humidifier chamber that is not seated. Power-cycle the machine on a wall outlet, reseat the water chamber, and inspect the cord before assuming the device needs service.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not use a frayed, scorched, or overheating power cord; replace damaged power parts with the correct model-compatible adapter.
Follow these steps
Power-cycle on a wall outlet
Unplug the CPAP completely for 60 seconds, then plug it directly into a known-working wall outlet instead of a power strip or extension cord.
You should see: The machine shows power lights or a display, or it stays dark so you can continue checking the cord.
Reseat the water chamber
Remove the water chamber or humidifier section, empty spilled water if needed, then reinstall it firmly until it clicks or sits flush.
You should see: The chamber is fully seated and the machine no longer looks misaligned at the humidifier bay.
Inspect the adapter and cord
Check the adapter and cord for fraying, bent pins, scorch marks, looseness at the brick, or a wobbly connection at the machine.
You should see: You either find a damaged connection that needs replacement, or the cord looks intact.
Reconnect every power point firmly
Unplug for about 10 seconds, then firmly reconnect the wall plug, power brick, and machine inlet before trying to start therapy again.
You should see: The machine powers on and begins to blow air, or it still fails with a clear no-power state.
Try without the SD card if needed
If an SD card error appears but the machine otherwise starts, remove the card and power on again to separate a card fault from a power fault.
You should see: The machine starts without the card, or it still will not power on and may need service or a replacement adapter.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether any lights or screen appear, whether the power brick feels warm, and any error code on the display.
Before you change anything: Unplug the machine before inspecting the cord or humidifier. Note the model label so you can match official parts if needed. Do not open the sealed electronics compartment. Keep the machine away from water while testing the power connection.
