Why is my Tascam DP-02 not recording audio?

Follow these steps
Connect the source to the correct input
Plug the mic or instrument into INPUT A or INPUT B on the DP-02. For an XLR microphone on B, use the XLR jack, not the 1/4-inch jack.
You should see: The cable is fully seated in the matching jack for your source type.
Set a healthy input level
Speak or play at normal volume and turn up the matching input LEVEL until the meter moves clearly. Adjust so the OL (overload) light only flashes briefly on the loudest peaks, not constantly.
You should see: You see regular meter activity without continuous OL warnings.
Arm the destination track
From the home/transport view (not buried in a deep menu), select the track you want to record to and arm it for recording so that track’s Rec indicator is active.

Record a short test take

If input B still sounds dead, recheck the mic path
