How do I fix a Silhouette Cameo 3 that no longer reads registration marks?
Answer
After a power loss, recalibrate the Cameo 3 registration mark sensor in Silhouette Studio, reload the mat with clear printed marks, and run Detect Registration Marks again. Clean the sensor area and confirm lighting before assuming the reader is damaged.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not insert tools into the carriage or sensor area while the machine is powered.
- Avoid unofficial firmware or paid “unlock” downloads that claim to fix registration errors.
Follow these steps
Power-cycle the Cameo 3 and computer
Turn the Cameo 3 off, unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, and restart Silhouette Studio. Reconnect USB or the usual connection method.
You should see: The machine is detected in Silhouette Studio and ready for a new job.
Inspect and reprint registration marks if needed
Load the mat and check that the printed registration marks are clean, dark, and fully on the page. If the cut damaged them, print a new test page with registration marks enabled.
You should see: You have undamaged, high-contrast marks for the sensor to read.
Recalibrate registration marks
In Silhouette Studio, open the Cameo 3 calibration or registration mark calibration tool. Follow the on-screen steps so the sensor reads the mark pattern and saves the calibration.
You should see: Calibration completes successfully and Studio no longer reports an immediate mark error.
Retry detection with good lighting
Place the machine in normal room light without strong glare on the marks, send Detect Registration Marks or start the cut with marks enabled, and watch whether the carriage scans all marks.
You should see: The carriage reads each mark and continues, or Studio shows a clearer failure point.
Clean the sensor path and test again
Power off, gently clean dust from the area around the registration mark sensor/reader with a dry lint-free cloth, then repeat detection with a fresh marked sheet.
You should see: Mark detection succeeds, or the same error persists and points to further Silhouette support or service.

Extra tips
What to look for: Software messages such as a registration mark error (“error en las marcas de registro”), the carriage pausing over the marks, or detection failing with no progress.
Before you change anything: Use the same Silhouette Cameo 3 and the official Silhouette Studio software. Print a fresh page with clear, high-contrast registration marks if the original sheet is damaged. Do not force the carriage by hand while powered. Never install unofficial “fix” tools from unknown sites.
