How do I get a Dexcom G7 sensor to work with an Omnipod 5 system?

Answer

Dexcom G7 and Omnipod 5 pairing only works when both products support that integration in your region and the G7 is started in the correct app before Omnipod searches for it.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Insulin dosing and automated mode decisions must follow your clinician’s instructions.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm G7 is supported with your Omnipod 5 software

Check Insulet and Dexcom official compatibility information for Omnipod 5 with Dexcom G7 in your region and app versions.

You should see: Compatibility is confirmed, or you learn G7 control is not supported on your current build.

  2. Remove leftover G5 devices from the apps

In the Dexcom and Omnipod related menus, delete unused G5 transmitters or sensors so the phone is not still looking for old hardware.

You should see: G5 prompts stop and only G7 setup options remain.

  3. Start the G7 in the Dexcom G7 app first

Insert and start the G7 following Dexcom’s instructions until the Dexcom app shows the sensor session warming up or reading.

You should see: The Dexcom app recognizes the new G7 sensor.

  4. Add the G7 in Omnipod 5 after Dexcom sees it

In the Omnipod 5 app, choose the Dexcom G7 CGM option and follow on-screen pairing. Keep the phone near the pod and sensor during the process.

You should see: Omnipod lists the G7 as connected, or a clear pairing error appears.

  5. Restart apps and retry once if pairing fails

Force-close both apps, toggle Bluetooth, reopen Dexcom to confirm G7 data, then retry Omnipod CGM setup. Contact official support if it still never appears.

You should see: Pairing succeeds, or support can review app logs and compatibility.

Extra tips

What to look for: Missing G7 device in Omnipod, leftover G5 prompts, and successful G7 readings in the Dexcom app while Omnipod still cannot see the sensor.

Before you change anything: Check Dexcom and Insulet compatibility notes for G7 with Omnipod 5 in your country. Have the Dexcom G7 app updated. Remove old G5 sensors or transmitters from the phone apps. Do not reuse a failed sensor beyond labeled wear time.
