How do I factory reset a Zebra Android device blocked by device admin?
Answer
If a Zebra device refuses factory reset, a device admin or enterprise management app is usually still active and must be deactivated in Settings, or the previous organization’s IT must remove the device from management.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Factory reset erases local data on the Zebra device.
- Bypass tools from unofficial sites can compromise the device and are often ineffective against real MDM locks.
Follow these steps
Check Device admin apps
Go to Settings > Security > Device admin apps, or Settings > Apps > Special access > Device admin apps, and see which management apps are enabled.
You should see: You can see the admin app blocking reset, or confirm none are listed.
Disable admins you control
Turn off any device admin or device-manager app you are allowed to disable, then retry Settings > System > Reset > Erase all data.
You should see: Factory reset proceeds, or Android still reports that reset is blocked.
Remove a work profile if present
If a work profile remains, open work profile settings and remove the work profile or uninstall the work policy app if the device allows it.
You should see: Work controls disappear, or the device states that IT admin approval is required.
Contact the previous managing organization if locked
If enterprise management remains enforced, contact the company or reseller that issued the Zebra and ask them to unenroll it from their MDM before you reset again.
You should see: The device is released from management, or you learn it cannot be wiped without that admin.

Extra tips
What to look for: Factory reset errors and enabled Device admin apps or work profile management on the Zebra device
Before you change anything: Back up any data you still need from the device. Identify whether this was a company-managed Zebra unit. Do not install random “FRP bypass” tools. Avoid sharing Google account passwords with strangers offering unlock help.
