How do I fix a Kindle setup or reading error?

Most purchased Kindle books are DRM-protected and cannot be exported from the Kindle app to EPUB or PDF for other readers. Check Amazon Manage Your Content and Devices for any publisher-enabled download option; if that option is missing, the title is usually locked to Kindle apps and devices.

Follow these steps
Open Manage Your Content and Devices
Sign in at Amazon, go to Account > Content and Devices (Manage Your Content and Devices), and find the book title in your library list.
You should see: The Kindle title appears with available actions for that book.
Look for a publisher-enabled download option
Open the title’s actions and check whether Amazon offers any publisher-enabled download, “Download & transfer,” or similar option beyond sending to a Kindle device.
You should see: Either a downloadable file option appears, or only Kindle delivery options are shown.
Interpret why export may be unavailable
If no export option appears, treat the book as DRM-protected Kindle content, a Kindle Unlimited/borrowed title, or a publisher restriction that blocks outside formats.
You should see: You know the limitation is licensing/DRM rather than a broken Kindle app setting.
Use Kindle reading options instead
Install or open the official Kindle app on your phone, tablet, or computer, or send the book to a registered Kindle device from Content and Devices.
You should see: You can read the purchased title in a supported Kindle app or device.
Buy or request a non-Kindle edition if you need EPUB/PDF
If you must have EPUB or PDF, check the publisher or another storefront for that format, or ask Amazon support whether any alternative edition is available for your purchase.
