How do I sign in to a new Kindle when other Kindles on the same account work?

Answer

This is usually a setup or Amazon account recognition issue on the new Kindle, not a permanent account ban. Restart the device, confirm Wi‑Fi, check for a software update, then sign in again with the exact Amazon email and password used on the other Kindles.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A factory reset should be a last step; it returns the Kindle to setup but will not by itself fix an Amazon password problem.

Follow these steps

  1. Restart the new Kindle

Hold the power button until the Kindle restarts or offers Restart, then wait until the home or setup screen returns.

You should see: The Kindle finishes restarting and shows the setup or sign-in screen again.

  2. Confirm Wi‑Fi before signing in

Open Wi‑Fi or network settings on the Kindle, connect to your network, and confirm it shows as connected with a strong signal.

You should see: The Kindle stays connected to Wi‑Fi without repeatedly dropping.

  3. Check for a Kindle software update

If you can open Settings, look for Device Options or Device Software and install any available update, then return to sign-in.

You should see: The Kindle is on the latest available software, or no update is offered.

  4. Sign in with the working Amazon account

Enter the same Amazon email and password used on your other Kindles. If a one-time code is requested, use only the code from Amazon’s official email or authenticator.

You should see: The new Kindle finishes registration and shows your library or home screen.

  5. Use Amazon account recovery only if sign-in still fails

From a computer or phone browser, open Amazon’s official account recovery page for that email, then retry Kindle sign-in after the password or verification method is updated.

You should see: You regain a working Amazon password or verification method and can complete Kindle setup.

Extra tips

What to look for: Any exact error text during Amazon sign-in on the new Kindle, and whether Wi‑Fi shows as connected during setup.

Before you change anything: Confirm the Amazon email that already works on your other Kindles. Use a trusted Wi‑Fi network during setup. Avoid factory-resetting the new Kindle until basic restart and update steps fail. Do not enter your Amazon password on a non-Amazon website or popup.
