What should I do if I have no service after switching carriers?
Answer
After a carrier switch, No Service is often an unfinished activation or network registration issue. Refresh the connection with Airplane Mode, confirm the new SIM or eSIM is active, then contact the new carrier’s official support if the line still fails.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Deleting an eSIM without a replacement plan can leave you without service until support issues a new one.
- Stop if a popup or third-party site asks you to pay to unlock service after a carrier switch.
Follow these steps
Refresh the cellular radio
Turn Airplane Mode on for about 15 seconds, then turn it off and wait for the status bar to update. Stay in one place with a clear signal if possible.
You should see: The phone moves from No Service toward Searching or shows the new carrier name.
Confirm the new SIM or eSIM is selected
Open the phone’s network or SIM settings and confirm the new carrier line is present, enabled, and selected for calls and mobile data. Restart the phone once after enabling it.
You should see: The new line is active in settings and the phone retries network registration.
Check the carrier account status
Sign in to the official new-carrier app or website and verify the line shows active, not pending cancelation or failed port. Follow any activation prompt shown there.
You should see: The account status matches an active line, or you see a clear activation error.
Contact the new carrier if service stays down
Use the official support chat, callback, or phone number from the carrier’s website or app. Tell them the switch date, that the phone shows No Service, and whether you used a physical SIM or eSIM. Ask them to re-provision the line.
You should see: A representative confirms activation status or pushes a corrected provisioning update.
Reinstall the eSIM only when instructed
If support says the eSIM must be replaced, delete and reinstall it only with their official QR code or in-app install steps. Keep Wi‑Fi available during reinstall.
You should see: A fresh eSIM installs and the phone registers on the new network.

Extra tips
What to look for: No Service, Searching, SOS only, missing carrier name, and whether the new carrier account shows the line as active
Before you change anything: Confirm which carrier you switched to and when the switch completed. Note whether you installed a physical SIM or eSIM. Avoid deleting the eSIM until support tells you to reinstall it. Use only the official carrier app, website, or support number.
