How do I fix a travel eSIM that will not work in Italy?

Answer

Turn the travel eSIM line on, select it for cellular data, manually choose the local network such as Vodafone IT, and temporarily disable cellular data switching.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Deleting the eSIM before support reviews it can make replacement harder.
  • Buy or redeem eSIMs only through the official provider you purchased from.

Follow these steps

  1. Turn on the travel eSIM line

Go to Settings > Cellular, tap the Vodafone or travel eSIM, and turn on the line if it is off.

You should see: The travel eSIM shows as turned on.

  2. Select it for cellular data

In Cellular settings, set Cellular Data to the travel eSIM and temporarily turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching.

You should see: Data uses the Italy eSIM rather than the home line.

  3. Choose the network manually

Open the eSIM's Network Selection, turn off Automatic, wait for the list, and select Vodafone IT or the network your provider specifies.

You should see: The phone registers to the selected Italian network.

  4. Retry data and contact the eSIM provider if needed

Open a browser page or run a speed test. If it still fails, contact the travel eSIM provider with a screenshot of the Cellular screen.

You should see: Data works, or the provider refreshes or replaces the eSIM profile.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the Vodafone IT eSIM appears under Cellular, whether Turn On This Line is available, and whether Cellular Data is still pointed at the home SIM

Before you change anything: Keep the home SIM available until the travel eSIM is confirmed working. Install any carrier settings updates if prompted. Do not delete the eSIM until troubleshooting is finished. Never share account passwords with unofficial eSIM helpers.
