How do I fix a Max message that says I have to change plans?

Answer

A “change plans” message on Max usually means the current subscription tier does not include that channel, live event, or add-on. Sign in on a phone or computer, open Account or Subscription, compare the plan name to what the title requires, then upgrade only if you want that content.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Only change plans through official Max or the app store that bills your subscription.

Follow these steps

  1. Sign in on a phone or computer

Open Max in a browser or the Max app on a phone or computer and sign in with the same account used on the TV. Avoid third-party “unlock sports” sites.

You should see: You reach your Max account home with the same profile or email as on the TV.

  2. Check the exact plan name

Go to Account or Subscription and write down the current plan name and any add-ons. Compare that with the plan Max lists for the title you want, such as a sports or premium tier.

You should see: You can see whether your plan excludes the content that triggered the message.

  3. Decide whether to upgrade

If you want the content, follow Max’s official upgrade or add-on purchase for that plan. If you do not want to pay more, exit playback and watch titles included in your current plan instead.

You should see: Either the upgrade completes and the title plays, or you keep the current plan without unexpected charges.

  4. Refresh the TV app after a plan change

If you upgraded, sign out of Max on the TV or restart the TV app, sign back in, and open the title again. Wait a few minutes if the new entitlement does not appear immediately.

You should see: The change-plans message is gone and the title plays, or Max still shows a specific entitlement error to report to support.

Extra tips

What to look for: Message that you must change plans, the exact plan name under Account or Subscription, and whether the title is marked as an add-on or higher tier

Before you change anything: Confirm you are signed into the same Max account on the TV and on a phone or computer. Note the exact wording of the change-plans message and the show or event name. Review the current plan price before upgrading. Cancel or reverse an upgrade only through the official Max or app-store subscription page if you change your mind.
