Why is Prime Video a blank screen on my LG TV?

Answer

A blank Prime Video screen on an LG TV is often an app or software glitch rather than a full TV failure. Power-cycling the TV, trying another title, then updating the TV software and the Prime Video app usually restores playback.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Uninstalling Prime Video removes the local app data on the TV and you will need to sign in again.

Follow these steps

  1. Power-cycle the TV

Turn the LG TV off, unplug it from the wall for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on again.

You should see: The TV restarts cleanly and apps reload from a fresh state.

  2. Reopen Prime Video and try another title

Open Prime Video again. If the home screen appears, play a different movie or episode to see whether only one title was stuck.

You should see: Prime Video shows its normal interface, or at least one title plays successfully.

  3. Run an LG software update

Open LG Settings, then Support or General, and check for a Software Update. Install any available update and let the TV reboot if prompted.

You should see: The TV reports it is up to date, or a new system update installs successfully.

  4. Update Prime Video from the LG Content Store

Open the LG Content Store, find Prime Video, and install any available app update. Then reopen Prime Video and test playback again.

You should see: Prime Video is current and the blank screen no longer appears.

  5. Reinstall Prime Video if it is still blank

If the screen is still blank after updates, delete or uninstall Prime Video from the TV, restart the TV, reinstall it from the LG Content Store, and sign in again through the app.

You should see: A fresh Prime Video install loads the Amazon home screen normally.

Extra tips

What to look for: A blank Prime Video screen, a clock or press-any-button message before the blank screen, and whether other apps or live TV still work.

Before you change anything: Confirm other TV inputs or apps still work so you know the panel itself is alive. Have the TV remote and access to LG Settings and the LG Content Store. Sign in to the correct Amazon account inside Prime Video if the app loads later. Avoid entering Amazon passwords on any unexpected pop-up that is not the Prime Video app.
