How do I fix Bose SoundSport headphones that will not turn on?

Answer

A drained or stuck battery is the usual cause. Try Bose’s short wall-charge reset (power on, wait 30 seconds, connect to a wall charger for about 5 seconds, unplug, then power on again). If that fails, charge from a known-good wall charger for 15–20 minutes and try powering on again.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Use a standard USB wall charger; avoid damaged cables or chargers that overheat.
  • Stop before paying third-party services that claim they can remotely unlock dead headphones.

Follow these steps

  1. Attempt the short charge reset

Try to turn the headphones on, wait about 30 seconds, then plug them into a wall charger (not a computer) for about 5 seconds. Unplug the cable and try turning them on again.

You should see: The headphones power on, or a status light briefly responds when charging or powering on.

  2. Charge for 15–20 minutes

If they still stay off, connect them to a known-good wall charger and leave them charging for 15 to 20 minutes without interrupting the cable.

You should see: A charging indicator appears, or the headphones feel warm only mildly at the charge port area (not hot).

  3. Power on after the longer charge

Unplug the cable, then press and hold the power control for several seconds to turn the headphones on.

You should see: The headphones power on and can enter pairing or reconnect to a phone.

  4. Test with a second cable or charger

If there is still no response, swap in another micro-USB cable and wall adapter and repeat a short charge, then try power again.

You should see: A different cable or charger restores charging or power-on, pointing to a bad cable rather than failed headphones.

  5. Contact Bose if they stay dead

If a second cable and wall charger still produce no power light and no turn-on, check Bose support for SoundSport warranty or service options for your region.

You should see: You know whether repair, replacement, or end-of-support is the realistic next step.

Extra tips

What to look for: No power light or response when pressing the power control, whether the USB charging cable and wall charger are known working, and whether the headphones ever show a charging indicator.

Before you change anything: Confirm the model is Bose SoundSport (or SoundSport Wireless) and you have the original-style micro-USB charge cable if that is what the set uses. Use a working wall charger, not only a computer USB port. Stop if the cable or port feels damaged or overheats. Do not pay for third-party “unlock” tools claimed to revive headphones.
