How do I fix Cannot Get Mail on an iPhone?
Answer
Toggle the Mail account off and on, restart the iPhone, then remove and re-add the account if the error remains. For Yahoo, add the account again through Settings, Mail, Accounts using Yahoo’s official sign-in.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Removing a mail account from the iPhone deletes locally stored messages for that account.
- Do not enter your email password on pages reached from unexpected emails.
Follow these steps
Toggle Mail for the account
Open Settings, Mail, Accounts, select the account, turn Mail off, wait about 10 seconds, then turn Mail back on.
You should see: Mail refreshes, or the same error returns quickly.
Restart the iPhone
Restart the iPhone and open the Mail app again.
You should see: New messages load, or Cannot Get Mail persists.
Re-add the account with official sign-in
Delete the account from Settings, Mail, Accounts, then choose Add Account and sign into Yahoo or your provider through the official flow.
You should see: The inbox downloads without the Cannot Get Mail alert.
Check provider-side status
If re-adding fails, sign into the provider website to confirm the password and any security block, then try the iPhone account setup again.
You should see: Provider access is confirmed and iPhone setup can succeed.

Extra tips
What to look for: Cannot Get Mail alerts, the affected account name, and whether mail.yahoo.com or the provider website still works
Before you change anything: Confirm the email still opens in a browser. Have the account password or app password ready. Note that removing an account deletes local copies on the iPhone. Use official provider sign-in pages only.
