Why do portrait photos look wrong on a landscape digital photo frame?

Most landscape-mounted frames still show portrait images, but they may letterbox, crop, or rotate them based on the frame’s fit settings. Check the frame’s display or image-fit options, and pre-rotate or resize portrait photos before loading them if the frame has no auto-rotate.

Follow these steps
Confirm the photo orientation on a computer
Open a problem portrait photo on a computer or phone and check that it already displays upright there before blaming the frame.
You should see: You know whether the file itself is rotated correctly or needs fixing first.
Change the frame’s fit or zoom setting
On the Carver frame menu or companion app, look for Fit to screen, Fill screen, Original, or similar and switch away from a crop/fill mode if portraits are being cut off.
You should see: Portrait images show the full photo with bars, or a less aggressive crop you prefer.
Use rotate if the image is sideways
If photos appear on their side, use the frame’s rotate option for that image, or rotate the file 90° on a computer and copy it to the frame again.
You should see: The portrait displays upright on the landscape screen.
Prepare portrait files for a landscape screen
If the frame lacks good auto handling, export portraits with the orientation baked in, or place them on a landscape canvas with background bars, then reload the folder or USB/SD card.

Recheck after a restart or resync
Restart the frame or resync the photo playlist after changing settings so it is not still using a cached layout for older files.
