Internet & Wi-FiTV & Streaming

How do I fix a smart TV that will not reconnect to Wi-Fi?

Answer

Restart the router and TV, then forget the old Wi-Fi network on the TV and re-enter the password carefully. If the TV still rejects the key, try a shorter temporary Wi-Fi password or a 2.4 GHz network, because some TVs fail on long or special-character passwords.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A TV network reset can remove saved Wi-Fi networks and some app sign-ins.

Follow these steps

  1. Restart the router

Unplug the iiNet modem or router for 30 to 60 seconds, plug it back in, and wait a few minutes until Wi-Fi is fully back for other devices.

You should see: Phones and computers reconnect and browse normally again.

  2. Restart the TV

Turn the TV all the way off, unplug it for one minute, then power it back on and open network or Wi-Fi settings.

You should see: The TV shows nearby networks again.

  3. Forget and rejoin the network

On the TV, forget or remove the saved Wi-Fi network, select it again, and enter the full password carefully, watching for caps lock and special characters.

You should see: The TV either connects or shows a clear incorrect-password error.

  4. Simplify the Wi-Fi password if needed

If the TV keeps rejecting the key, temporarily change the router Wi-Fi password to a shorter password without uncommon symbols, then join the TV and update other devices afterward.

You should see: The TV accepts the new password and shows a connected status.

  5. Try 2.4 GHz or move closer

If the router has separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names, connect the TV to the 2.4 GHz network and place it closer to the router while testing.

You should see: The TV stays connected and streaming apps load again.

Extra tips

What to look for: A Wi-Fi error on the TV, a password rejected message, and whether phones on the same iiNet router still have working internet.

Before you change anything: Confirm other devices can still use the same Wi-Fi network. Have the current Wi-Fi password available from the router sticker or iiNet app. Avoid factory-resetting the TV until network rejoin steps fail. Never give router login details to an unexpected caller.
