How do I fix No Service on an iPhone while a Europe roaming plan should be active?

Answer

No Service during a prepaid Europe roam period usually means the roaming add-on is not active on the line yet, Data Roaming is off, or the phone has not registered on a local network. Confirm the roam plan in the carrier app first, then refresh cellular settings on the iPhone.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm the Europe roam plan is active

Open the carrier’s official app or account page and check that the Europe roaming add-on is active on this line for the current dates. For Bell customers, check MyBell for Roam Better, or use the carrier’s official roam activation method if shown in the app.

You should see: The account shows the roam pass as active, or you can complete activation if it was only purchased and not turned on.

  2. Turn Data Roaming on for the travel line

On the iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data), select the travel line if there are two, and turn on Data Roaming. Also confirm the line itself is enabled.

You should see: Data Roaming is on and the phone is allowed to use partner networks.

  3. Refresh the cellular connection

Turn Airplane Mode on for 15 seconds, turn it off, then wait up to a couple of minutes for a local carrier name to appear instead of No Service.

You should see: The status bar shows a carrier name and signal, or switches from No Service to Searching and then connects.

  4. Try automatic network selection

Go to Settings > Cellular > Network Selection and leave Automatic on. If it was set to manual, switch back to Automatic and retest.

You should see: The iPhone selects an available partner network on its own.

  5. Contact the carrier if the pass is active but service stays down

If the roam plan shows active and the phone still says No Service, contact the carrier on Wi‑Fi or another phone so they can provision roaming on the line.

You should see: The carrier refreshes roaming entitlements or identifies a coverage or SIM/eSIM issue.

Extra tips

What to look for: Status bar showing No Service or Searching, plus whether the carrier app lists the Europe roam pass as active for today’s date

Before you change anything: Confirm the roam plan’s start and end dates in the carrier’s official app or account. Note your carrier and whether the plan is called something like Roam Better or a Europe pass. Have the SIM/eSIM line name ready if the phone has dual lines. Only use official carrier short codes or support channels listed in the carrier app.
