Why is an iPhone screen too dim to read easily?
Answer
A dim iPhone display is often caused by Reduce White Point, Auto-Brightness, True Tone/Night Shift, or Attention Aware Features lowering brightness. Turning those off temporarily and restarting the phone usually restores a normal brightness range.
Follow these steps
Turn off Reduce White Point
Open Settings → Accessibility → Display & Text Size and set Reduce White Point to Off.
You should see: The screen looks brighter or less washed-out gray.
Disable Auto-Brightness temporarily
Go to Settings → Display & Brightness (or Accessibility → Display & Text Size, depending on iOS version) and turn Auto-Brightness off, then manually raise the brightness slider.
You should see: Manual brightness increases make the screen clearly brighter.
Turn off True Tone and Night Shift
In Settings → Display & Brightness, switch True Tone and Night Shift Off to rule out color/brightness shifts that make text harder to read.
You should see: The display color looks more neutral and may appear easier to read.
Disable Attention Aware Features
On Face ID models, open Settings → Face ID & Passcode, authenticate, and set Attention Aware Features to Off.
You should see: The screen no longer dims automatically based on attention detection.
Restart the iPhone
Power the iPhone off, wait about 30 seconds, turn it back on, and recheck brightness in Control Center.
You should see: Brightness behaves normally, or the dim symptom continues despite settings being off.

Extra tips
What to look for: Settings paths for Display & Brightness, Reduce White Point, True Tone, Night Shift, and Attention Aware Features, plus whether the brightness slider moves but the screen stays dark.
Before you change anything: Note current brightness and which display accessibility options are on. Try raising brightness with Control Center before changing deeper settings. Avoid paying third parties who claim they can unlock brightness remotely. Back up the iPhone before any major troubleshooting beyond settings changes.
