How do I fix an AT&T iPhone that suddenly cannot make or receive calls?

Answer

Sudden no-call service on an AT&T iPhone is often a temporary network or cellular-settings issue. Toggle Airplane Mode, confirm Cellular is on, restart the iPhone, then contact AT&T if No Service remains on a business line.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not remove the eSIM or reset network settings until simpler steps fail, because that can interrupt service longer on a business line.
  • Never share AT&T account PINs or one-time codes with anyone who contacts you unexpectedly.

Follow these steps

  1. Refresh the cellular radio

Open Control Center, turn on Airplane Mode for about 15 seconds, then turn it off and wait for the carrier name or signal bars to return.

You should see: The iPhone reconnects to AT&T and No Service clears, or the same status returns.

  2. Confirm Cellular is enabled

Go to Settings, then Cellular, and make sure Cellular is turned on. If Dual SIM or multiple lines appear, confirm the AT&T business line is selected for voice calls.

You should see: The correct AT&T line is enabled for calling.

  3. Restart the iPhone

Power the iPhone fully off, wait 30 seconds, turn it back on, then place a test call and ask someone to call you back.

You should see: Calls work again, or the phone still cannot connect and needs carrier help.

  4. Check the AT&T business line status

If No Service continues, sign in to the official AT&T account tools or contact AT&T business support to confirm the line is active and not suspended, then ask about a network refresh or SIM/eSIM reprovision if needed.

You should see: You learn whether the outage is on the account/network side and get the next carrier step.

Extra tips

What to look for: Status text such as No Service or SOS, missing signal bars, and whether Cellular is turned off in Settings.

Before you change anything: Check whether nearby phones on the same carrier still have service. Note whether Wi-Fi still works while cellular calling does not. Avoid deleting the eSIM or cellular plan unless AT&T support instructs you to. Never share account PINs or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
