Answer

Install the official Dexcom app from the App Store, sign in with the Dexcom account, allow Bluetooth and notifications, then follow the in-app Sensor or Transmitter setup to pair the device.

  • Glucose monitoring decisions should follow your clinician’s guidance; this article only covers phone pairing and app setup.

Follow these steps

  1. Install the matching Dexcom app

On the iPhone, open the App Store and install the official Dexcom app that matches your sensor model. Do not use third-party download links.

You should see: The correct Dexcom app appears on the Home Screen.

  2. Turn on Bluetooth and open the app

Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth on. Open the Dexcom app, sign in with your Dexcom account, and allow notifications if asked.

You should see: The app opens to the home or setup screen and Bluetooth is available.

  3. Start sensor or transmitter setup

In the Dexcom app, choose the option to start a new sensor, pair a transmitter, or add a device. Follow the on-screen prompts for your model.

You should see: The app asks you to scan a code, enter a transmitter ID, or confirm pairing.

  4. Complete pairing and warm-up

Keep the iPhone near the sensor during pairing. Finish every confirmation screen and wait for the warm-up or connection period shown in the app before expecting readings.

You should see: The app shows the sensor as connected or warming up, or displays a clear pairing error you can act on.

  5. Check permissions if pairing fails

Open Settings > Apps > Dexcom (or Settings > Dexcom) and confirm Bluetooth, notifications, and any requested health or background permissions are allowed. Retry setup in the app.

You should see: Required permissions are on, and the app can search for the Dexcom device again.

Extra tips

What to look for: Your Dexcom sensor or transmitter model name, the matching Dexcom app in the App Store, and Bluetooth and notification permission prompts on iPhone.

Before you change anything: Confirm which Dexcom model you have (for example G6, G7, or another supported sensor). Know your Dexcom account email before opening the app. Download only the official Dexcom app from Apple’s App Store. Never share your Dexcom or Apple ID password with unexpected callers or texts.
