What should I do if an AT&T eSIM is stuck after leaving Consumer Cellular?

Answer

When an AT&T eSIM stays pending for hours, finish or retry installation from the AT&T account Manage SIM tools and the iPhone Cellular settings. Look for a plan ready to install prompt, install it on Wi-Fi if possible, then contact AT&T if the line still shows no signal after a restart.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not delete your previous SIM profile until AT&T confirms the new eSIM is active, or you may lose the only working service.

Follow these steps

  1. Check for a plan ready to install

On the iPhone, open Settings > Cellular and look for an AT&T plan ready to be installed or a similar carrier notification. If it appears, follow Install and keep the phone on Wi-Fi.

You should see: The AT&T eSIM installs, or Cellular shows no pending plan.

  2. Use AT&T Manage SIM

Sign in to the official AT&T account on a browser or the AT&T app, open Manage SIM for the line, and follow any eSIM install, transfer, or retry options shown there.

You should see: AT&T shows the eSIM status and offers a QR code, install link, or activation progress.

  3. Restart and confirm the AT&T line

After installing, restart the iPhone, then check Settings > Cellular for an AT&T line with signal bars or operator name. Toggle Airplane Mode on and off once if the line appears but has no service.

You should see: AT&T signal appears, or the line is listed but still has no coverage.

  4. Contact AT&T if service is still missing

If hours have passed and the eSIM is installed but there is still no coverage, contact AT&T support with the account and IMEI so they can complete carrier-side activation, especially important in areas with limited alternate service.

You should see: AT&T confirms activation status or pushes a corrected eSIM profile.

Extra tips

What to look for: A message like AT&T Cellular Plan Ready to Be Installed, Cellular settings with no AT&T line, and whether Wi-Fi works while cellular stays offline.

Before you change anything: Stay on Wi-Fi if possible so you can reach AT&T account pages. Confirm the AT&T account login for the line being activated. Avoid deleting the only working SIM profile unless AT&T instructs you to. Never share account codes with unexpected callers.
