How do I get a replacement phone through my insurance after a loss?

Answer

Start with your carrier or device-protection provider’s official claim portal (sometimes labeled claim assistance or similar), report the phone lost or stolen, then follow their checklist for police report, account PIN, and shipping a replacement. Steps differ by insurer.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Watch for phishing sites and callers who ask for gift cards or upfront fees outside your deductible.

Follow these steps

  1. Identify the insurance provider

Check your carrier bill, welcome email, or bank/credit-card benefits for the device-protection company name and claim phone number or website.

You should see: You know exactly where to file—carrier portal versus a third-party insurer.

  2. Secure the line and accounts

Contact the carrier to suspend service or report the device lost/stolen. Change passwords for Apple Account, Google account, and email if the phone might still be powered on.

You should see: The lost phone cannot place calls or easily access your accounts.

  3. File the claim in the official portal

Open the insurer’s official claim site or app (look for claim assistance / file a claim / Asistencia en Siniestro if that is your provider’s label). Start a lost-device claim and save the claim number.

You should see: You receive a claim number and a list of required documents.

  4. Submit required proof

Upload or provide whatever the insurer asks for—photo ID, police report if required, IMEI, and payment method for any deductible.

You should see: The claim status moves from submitted to in review or approved.

  5. Track replacement shipping and setup

When a replacement ships, follow the insurer’s instructions for returning the old device if they require it, then set up the new phone and restore from your backup.

You should see: You receive the replacement and can activate it on your line.

Extra tips

What to look for: Your carrier’s device protection brand name, a claim number, menus such as file a claim / lost or stolen, and any Spanish or English claim-assistance label your insurer uses (for example Asistencia en Siniestro).

Before you change anything: Find your insurance or device-protection documents and policy number. Note the lost phone’s make, model, IMEI, and whether it was Android or iPhone. Suspend or mark the line lost/stolen with the carrier to limit misuse. Use only official insurer or carrier websites—never pay a random "claims helper" who messages you first.
