How do I get past iCloud activation after resetting an iPhone?

Answer

Enter the Apple ID email that was previously used on the iPhone and the correct password. If the password is forgotten, use iforgot.apple.com for account recovery, then return to the activation screen after waiting for recovery to finish.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Third-party Activation Lock removal services are commonly scams.

Follow these steps

  1. Enter the original Apple ID email

On the activation screen, enter the Apple ID email that was used on the iPhone before the reset, exactly as it was registered.

You should see: Apple accepts the email and prompts for the password or recovery options.

  2. Reset the password with Apple’s official recovery

On another device, go to iforgot.apple.com, start account recovery for that Apple ID, and complete Apple’s verification steps.

You should see: Apple begins a password reset or account recovery process.

  3. Wait before retrying activation

After the reset succeeds, wait about 5 to 10 minutes, then enter the new password carefully on the iPhone activation screen.

You should see: Activation Lock clears and setup continues.

  4. Contact Apple Support if recovery is blocked

If Apple cannot verify the account or Activation Lock remains after a successful password reset, contact Apple Support with proof of purchase.

You should see: Apple provides the next supported unlock or ownership-verification path.

Extra tips

What to look for: Activation Lock or Apple ID sign-in screen after reset, the exact Apple ID email shown or remembered, and any try again later messages during recovery

Before you change anything: Use the Apple ID that actually owned the iPhone. Do not keep guessing passwords endlessly. Only use iforgot.apple.com or official Apple Support. Never pay a third party to remove Activation Lock.
