What can I do if a TV is stuck on the startup or logo screen?

Answer

This is usually fixed with a full power cycle: unplug the TV from the wall for about a minute, then plug it back in directly. Most stuck startup screens clear after this without losing any settings.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A factory reset, if it becomes necessary later, will erase saved app logins and settings, so try the power cycle first.

Follow these steps

  1. Try the TV's own buttons first

Locate the power or menu button on the TV itself, not the remote, and press it once to see if the TV responds at all.

You should see: The TV either changes screens or continues to show no response.

  2. Unplug the TV from the wall

Unplug the TV's power cord from the wall outlet, not just a power strip, and leave it unplugged for a full 60 seconds.

You should see: The TV's power light turns off completely, showing no standby light.

  3. Plug directly into a wall outlet

Plug the TV's power cord directly into a wall outlet, bypassing any power strip or surge protector for this test.

You should see: The outlet provides power and the TV can be turned back on.

  4. Turn the TV back on and wait

Press the power button and allow up to two minutes for the TV to fully restart, since some models take longer to recover after a full power cycle.

You should see: The TV shows a normal home screen or setup screen instead of the stuck logo.

  5. Check for a software update once running

If the TV starts normally, open its settings menu and check for a system software update to reduce the chance of the freeze happening again.

You should see: The TV confirms it is on the latest available software version.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the remote's light blinks or a sound plays when buttons are pressed, and whether the TV is plugged into a power strip or surge protector instead of directly into the wall.

Before you change anything: Confirm the remote has working batteries and try pointing it directly at the TV. Check whether the TV responds to buttons on the TV itself, not just the remote. Note how long the TV has been stuck before trying a fix. Avoid unplugging other devices sharing the same power strip unless needed.
