Why can voicemail take messages but not play them when I enter my code?
Answer
Call voicemail again and enter only your mailbox or home number plus PIN when prompted—extra digits can make the system ignore the code. If repeated failures occurred, wait about 30 minutes for a temporary PIN lockout to clear, then reset the PIN through the carrier if needed.
Follow these steps
Enter only mailbox and PIN
Call voicemail and, when asked, enter only your mailbox or home phone number and then your PIN—nothing extra.
You should see: The system authenticates and offers message playback.
Wait out a lockout
If access still fails after several tries, wait about 30 minutes before trying again in case of a temporary PIN lockout.
You should see: A later attempt accepts the PIN or still rejects it.
Reset the voicemail PIN
Use the carrier account, app, or phone voicemail settings to reset the PIN, then call voicemail with the new PIN.
You should see: Messages play successfully.
Retest from another phone
If needed, call the voicemail access number from a second phone and sign in with your mailbox number and PIN to rule out handset tone issues.
You should see: Playback works from the second phone or still fails carrier-side.

Extra tips
What to look for: Prompts such as log on as another subscriber, silence after PIN entry, or goodbye because no code was entered.
Before you change anything: Have your own phone number and current voicemail PIN ready. Use a quiet line so DTMF tones are clear. Avoid rapid repeated wrong PIN tries. Do not share the PIN with unexpected callers.
