Why won't an Amazon Echo call a contact?

Echo calling usually fails because contacts are not synced, communication permissions are off, or the contact name does not match the Alexa address book. Enable calling in the Alexa app, sync contacts, then use the exact contact name.
Follow these steps
Turn on Alexa communication
In the Alexa app, open Communicate or Contacts settings and enable calling and, if offered, the permission to access contacts.
You should see: Calling features are on and Alexa is allowed to use contacts.
Sync the contact list
Import or sync contacts from the phone, then confirm the person's name appears exactly as you plan to say it.
You should see: The contact is visible in the Alexa contacts list.
Test with the exact name
Say Alexa, call and the exact contact name shown in the app. If there are similar names, choose the correct one when Alexa asks.
You should see: Alexa places the call or clearly asks which contact to use.
