Why won’t my Bose SoundLink Flex Bluetooth speaker volume go higher?

Answer

When a Bose SoundLink Flex stays quiet, raise volume on both the phone and the speaker, disable absolute volume quirks by reconnecting Bluetooth, and make sure media audio is routed to the speaker rather than the phone earpiece.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Avoid max volume for long periods at very close range to protect hearing.

Follow these steps

  1. Raise volume on both phone and speaker

While audio is playing, press the phone’s volume up key for media volume and also press volume up on the SoundLink Flex until both are at maximum.

You should see: Loudness increases, or it stays low even at both maximums.

  2. Reconnect Bluetooth

On the phone, forget or disconnect the SoundLink Flex, turn the speaker off and on, then pair it again and play media while raising volume.

You should see: Volume control responds normally after the fresh pairing.

  3. Check for a second audio source or app limit

Close other music or call apps, disable any volume limiter or mono audio accessibility setting temporarily, and confirm the phone’s media output is set to the Bose speaker.

You should see: Only one app is playing through the SoundLink Flex at a usable volume.

  4. Test from another device

Pair the SoundLink Flex with a second phone or tablet. If volume is normal there, the original phone’s Bluetooth or media settings are the bottleneck.

You should see: You can tell whether the speaker hardware or the source device is limiting volume.

Extra tips

What to look for: Speaker volume buttons that seem maxed while playback stays quiet, or phone media volume that barely moves the SoundLink Flex

Before you change anything: Confirm you are adjusting media volume, not ringtone volume. Note whether the speaker shows a full battery. Disconnect other Bluetooth devices that might steal audio. Keep the official Bose app handy if firmware options appear.
