How can I tell if a Samsung TV is a smart TV?
Answer
Press Home on the Samsung remote and look for Apps, Smart Hub, or a row of streaming apps. If those menus exist and can open an app store, it is a smart TV; older non-smart sets usually only show live TV inputs.
Follow these steps
Open the Home screen
Press Home on the Samsung remote. Move left or right across the bottom row and look for Apps, Smart Hub, or familiar app icons such as Netflix.
You should see: You see smart menus, or only input/source options.
Try the app store
Open Apps and look for an App Store or search for a free app. Note any error if the store will not load.
You should see: The store opens, fails with a network error, or Apps is missing entirely.
Check About This TV
If Settings is available, open Settings > Support > About This TV and note the model code. Search that model on Samsung’s site for smart features.
You should see: The model page confirms smart features or shows a non-smart set.
Rule out an external stick
If apps only appear when an HDMI stick or game console is selected, those apps belong to the stick, not the Samsung panel.
You should see: You know whether the TV itself is smart.
