Why won't Hulu load on a Samsung smart TV?

Answer

Restart the television properly first — hold the power button until it reboots, or unplug it for a minute rather than using standby. If it still fails, sign out of Hulu, remove and reinstall the app, and check the TV has any pending software updates.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Resetting the TV to factory settings removes every app and setting. Try the steps above first.

Follow these steps

  1. Power cycle the television

Hold the TV's power button until it restarts, or unplug it at the wall for a minute. Standby is not enough.

You should see: The TV restarts fully and Hulu may open normally.

  2. Check whether other apps work

Open a different streaming app. If nothing loads, restart your router and confirm the TV is still on Wi-Fi.

You should see: You know whether this is Hulu or the network.

  3. Reinstall the app

Remove Hulu from the TV's apps screen, then install it again from the Samsung app store and sign in.

You should see: A clean copy installs and opens.

  4. Update the TV software

In Settings, look under Support or Software Update and install anything pending.

You should see: The TV reports it is up to date.

  5. Try another device to narrow it down

Open Hulu on a phone using the same account. If it works there, the account is fine and the issue is the TV.

You should see: You know whether to contact Hulu or Samsung.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether other streaming apps on the same TV work. If they all fail, the problem is the TV's network rather than Hulu.

Before you change anything: Know your Hulu email and password, because reinstalling signs you out.
