Before you start: stop right away if…
- Erasing an iPhone does not remove Activation Lock; you will still need the Apple ID password to set it up again.
- Stop if a site asks you to pay to unlock iCloud outside Apple’s official recovery process.
Follow these steps
Start reset on a working device
On another phone, tablet, or computer, open a browser and go to iforgot.apple.com. Enter the Apple ID email address used for iCloud.
You should see: Apple shows options to reset the password or unlock the account.
Choose a verification method you still control
Select authentication with a trusted phone number, a signed-in Apple device, or account recovery if those are offered. Prefer a device you already own over unknown third-party help sites.
You should see: You receive a code or device prompt you can approve.
Create a new Apple ID password
After verification, set a new password, then sign back into iCloud on the iPhone in Settings with that new password.
You should see: iCloud signs in successfully and iCloud features become available again.
If no trusted devices are available
Choose account recovery when Apple offers it, follow the on-screen wait guidance, and monitor the email or phone number Apple uses for updates. Do not pay unofficial services claiming to bypass Apple ID lock.
You should see: Apple either restores access after the recovery process or makes clear what proof is still required.
