How do I fix a Kasa smart plug that blinks blue and orange and will not join Wi-Fi?
Answer
Put the Kasa plug back into setup mode, connect it to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, and finish pairing in the official Kasa app. Blue-and-orange blinking usually means the plug is waiting for setup or failed to join the network.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Use only the official Kasa app from Google Play or the App Store.
Follow these steps
Reset the plug for setup
Plug the HS103 in and press the settings button as directed in the Kasa app until the LED blinks to show setup mode again.
You should see: The plug returns to a blinking setup pattern the app recognizes.
Use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
On the phone, join your 2.4 GHz network. If your router uses separate bands, avoid a 5 GHz-only SSID for this setup.
You should see: The phone is on a network the plug can use.
Add device in Kasa app
Open the Kasa app, choose Add Device, select the smart plug, and enter the Wi-Fi password when prompted. Keep Bluetooth and location permissions allowed if Android asks.
You should see: The plug connects and appears in the Kasa device list.
Retry closer to the router
If pairing fails, move the plug closer to the router, reboot the router, and repeat setup. Confirm the Wi-Fi password carefully.
You should see: Setup completes, or the app shows a clearer error you can act on.
