EmailAccounts & Passwords

How do I fix a PlayStation 5 account that will not sign in?

Answer

PS5 sign-in failures are usually caused by an incorrect Sign-In ID, a mistyped password, or a temporary PlayStation Network outage. Reset the password on the official PlayStation account site from a phone or computer, then try again on the console.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Stop if a site or popup asks you to pay to unlock the account or install remote-access software.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm the Sign-In ID email

On the PS5 sign-in screen, carefully enter the email address you believe is the current PlayStation Sign-In ID. Check for old emails you used when the account was created.

You should see: The console accepts the ID and moves to password entry, or clearly says the account was not found.

  2. Check PlayStation Network status

On a phone, open PlayStation’s official service status page and confirm account management and gaming services are up.

You should see: Services show available, or an outage explains the failed login.

  3. Reset the password on the official site

From a phone or computer browser, open the official PlayStation account sign-in page, choose forgot password, and complete verification through email or SMS. Create a new password and store it securely.

You should see: PlayStation confirms the password was changed.

  4. Sign in again on the PS5

Return to the console, enter the same Sign-In ID and the new password, and complete any two-factor prompt shown on screen.

You should see: The PS5 signs in and loads the account’s games and settings.

Extra tips

What to look for: Any on-screen error wording, whether PlayStation Network status is green, and whether the same password fails on the PlayStation website.

Before you change anything: Confirm the email address that is the PlayStation Sign-In ID. Use only the official PlayStation website or app for password resets. Have access to the recovery email or phone for verification codes. Never share one-time codes with unexpected callers.
