How do I fix a TV picture that looks reduced or not full screen?

Answer

A reduced TV picture is usually caused by the aspect ratio or picture-size setting on the TV or current input, not a broken screen. Cycling Normal, Wide, 16:9, or Full on the remote often restores a full-screen image.

Follow these steps

  1. Try the picture size button on the remote

Press the Size, Aspect, Zoom, or Picture Size button a few times and look for options such as Normal, Wide, 16:9, or Full.

You should see: The image expands to fill the screen, or the available size modes are visible.

  2. Check the TV picture settings menu

Open Settings, then Picture or Screen, and look for Aspect Ratio, Screen Fit, or Picture Size. Choose the full-screen option for that input.

You should see: The selected input displays in a full-screen mode.

  3. Test another input or app

Switch to a different HDMI input or streaming app to see whether the reduced size follows one source only.

You should see: Either every source is affected, pointing to the TV setting, or only one source needs its own aspect setting.

  4. Restart the TV

Turn the TV off, unplug it for about 60 seconds, plug it back in, and check the picture size again.

You should see: The picture returns to the last selected full-screen mode, or the size setting can be reapplied.

Extra tips

What to look for: Black bars on the sides or top and bottom, or a zoomed-out image, with no error code required

Before you change anything: Note which input or app is showing the reduced picture. Check whether the problem happens on live TV, HDMI, or only one streaming app. Avoid resetting the whole TV until picture-size options are tried. Keep the original remote nearby if it has a Size or Aspect button.
