How do I move YouTube Premium after changing my phone number?
Answer
YouTube Premium is tied to a Google account, not the phone number itself. Sign in on the iPhone with the Google account that already has Premium, or cancel Premium on the old account and resubscribe on the new one—subscriptions usually cannot be transferred between Google accounts.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Cancelling Premium on the old account ends benefits there; a new subscription on another Google account is usually a separate purchase.
- Stop if a site or popup asks you to pay a fee to “transfer” Premium or install unknown software.
Follow these steps
Find which Google account has Premium
On the iPhone, open the YouTube app, tap your profile picture, then Settings or Your channel / Account. Note the Google email signed in. On a computer, open Google Account > Payments & subscriptions or YouTube Premium membership and confirm which email shows an active plan.
You should see: You know the exact Google account that currently has YouTube Premium.
Sign that account into YouTube on the iPhone
If Premium is on an older Google account, sign out of the wrong account in YouTube (or add the correct account via Add account), then sign in with the email that owns Premium. Open a Premium feature such as background play or no ads to confirm access.
You should see: YouTube on the iPhone shows Premium benefits under the correct Google account.
Decide if you must switch Google accounts
YouTube Premium generally cannot be moved from one Google account to another. If you must use a different Google email, cancel Premium on the old account through the same store you used to buy it (Google or Apple), wait for the period to end if required, then subscribe again on the new account.
You should see: You either keep Premium on the original account or plan a clean cancel-and-resubscribe on the new one.
Update recovery phone only if needed
If the cancelled number was a recovery or 2-Step Verification method, open Google Account > Security on an official Google page and replace it with your new number or another verified method before you lose access.
You should see: Account recovery uses a current phone or backup method, separate from the Premium subscription itself.

Extra tips
What to look for: The Google account email shown in YouTube or Google Account settings, and whether Premium appears as active on that account
Before you change anything: Write down which Google email currently shows YouTube Premium as active. Confirm whether you pay through Google Play, YouTube, or Apple In-App Purchase. Do not share passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers. Cancel only after you know which account holds the paid plan.
