How do I fix the Kardia app when an iPhone becomes unresponsive after an update?

Answer

Force-restart the iPhone first if the home screen does not respond. Then confirm the Kardia app is current in the App Store, briefly toggle Airplane Mode to refresh the network, and retest. If the phone still freezes only inside Kardia, delete and reinstall the app from the official App Store.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Kardia is a health-related app; if you need urgent medical care, contact local emergency services instead of troubleshooting the app.

Follow these steps

  1. Force-restart if the screen is unresponsive

Use Apple’s force-restart sequence for your iPhone model: quickly press volume up, volume down, then hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. Do not slide to power off if the screen is frozen.

You should see: The iPhone reboots and the home screen responds to taps again.

  2. Confirm Kardia is fully updated

Open the App Store, go to Kardia’s page, and update it if an Update button is shown. If the button already says Open, you likely have the latest version from the Store.

You should see: Kardia is on the latest App Store version, or Open confirms no update is pending.

  3. Refresh the network connection

Turn Airplane Mode on for about 15 seconds, then turn it off and wait for cellular or Wi‑Fi to reconnect before opening Kardia again.

You should see: Signal status returns to normal and Kardia can reach its servers, or a clearer network error remains.

  4. Reinstall the Kardia app

If Kardia still fails while other apps work, delete Kardia, restart the iPhone, then reinstall it from the official App Store and sign in again.

You should see: Kardia launches to its normal home or sign-in screen without freezing the phone.

  5. Check iOS and app permissions

In Settings, confirm there is no unfinished iOS update, then open Settings > Kardia and allow any needed Bluetooth, network, or motion permissions the app requests for readings.

You should see: iOS is up to date enough for the app, and Kardia has the permissions it needs.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the whole home screen is frozen or only Kardia fails, plus any status text such as Weak Signal or No Signal, and whether the App Store button for Kardia says Open or Update.

Before you change anything: Note whether other apps still open and respond. Have your Apple ID available if the App Store asks you to sign in. Back up the iPhone if you may need deeper resets later. Never share Apple ID passwords or verification codes with unexpected callers.
