Check Carrier Lock in Settings

Interpret the status
If it says No SIM restrictions, the phone is unlocked. If it names a carrier or shows SIM restrictions, it is still carrier locked.
You should see: You know whether a different carrier SIM can be used.
Optional SIM test
If policy allows, insert a compatible SIM from another carrier and restart. Note whether the phone shows service or a SIM not supported style message.
