How do I find a phone left in a Lyft ride?
Answer
Use Find My iPhone or Find Device immediately to locate the phone and enable Lost Mode, then contact the Lyft driver through the app’s lost item flow. Do not rely only on a note left on the lock screen.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Erasing the device can protect data but may make continued location tracking harder afterward.
- Avoid unofficial “recovery helpers” that ask for remote access or upfront fees.
Follow these steps
Locate the phone remotely
On another Apple device or iCloud.com, open Find My, select the lost iPhone, view its location, and play a sound if it may still be nearby. For Android, use Google Find Hub / Find Device with the same Google account.
You should see: You see a map location, offline status, or can play a sound on the phone.
Turn on Lost Mode
In Find My, select the iPhone and enable Lost Mode. Add a reachable callback number and a short lock-screen message such as that you lost the phone and how to contact you. For Android, use the lock and message options in Find Device.
You should see: The phone locks and shows your contact message if someone finds it.
Contact the Lyft driver about that trip
Open the Lyft app, find the completed trip, and use Lost Item or Help to contact the driver. Describe the phone model, case color, and where it may have been left (for example, back seat).
You should see: Lyft opens a lost-item conversation or next steps with the driver for that ride.
Coordinate pickup safely
Arrange return through Lyft’s process or a public meeting place. Do not share passwords, payment codes, or remote-access tools. If location updates, share only what is needed to recover the device.
You should see: You have a clear plan to get the phone back without giving account access to strangers.
Secure accounts if recovery fails
If the phone cannot be found, keep Lost Mode on, change important passwords from a safe device, and consider Erase This Device in Find My only after you accept that tracking may stop once erasure completes.
You should see: Your accounts stay protected even if the hardware is not recovered.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether Find My / Find Device still shows a recent location or playing sound, and the specific Lyft trip where the phone was left.
Before you change anything: Use another phone, tablet, or computer you trust. Do not factory-erase the lost phone until recovery attempts finish, unless you accept that tracking may become harder. Contact the driver only through Lyft’s official lost-item process when possible. Never share Apple ID, Google, or banking codes with anyone who texts or calls about the phone.
