How do I fix an LG TV that has picture but no sound from the TV speakers?

Answer

When an LG TV has picture but no audio on TV speakers, start with a power cycle, then turn off eARC and AI Sound Pro if those options appear, and reset Sound to Initial Settings. If sound still fails after HDMI-CEC (SIMPLINK) is turned off, the next check is usually a different input or official LG support for that model.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A full factory reset can erase apps and accounts; use Sound reset first and only factory-reset if you accept that data loss.
  • Stop if a popup or caller asks you to pay to unlock sound or share a one-time code.

Follow these steps

  1. Power-cycle the TV

Turn the TV off, unplug it from power for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. Raise the volume and play a known audio source such as a live channel or a streaming app.

You should see: Sound returns after the reboot, or the TV still has picture with no audio.

  2. Turn off eARC if available

Open Settings > All Settings > Sound (or General > Devices > HDMI Settings, depending on the menu) and turn eARC Support off if that option appears, then test TV speakers again.

You should see: eARC is off and the TV is no longer waiting on an external audio device.

  3. Disable AI Sound Pro and sound enhancements

Go to Settings > All Settings > Sound and turn off AI Sound Pro or similar sound-mode enhancements temporarily, then play content again.

You should see: Sound modes are simplified and audio either returns or stays silent.

  4. Reset sound settings only

Go to Settings > All Settings > Sound > Reset to Initial Settings. Confirm the reset, set Sound Out back to TV Speaker, and test volume.

You should see: Sound settings return to defaults and TV speakers work again, or the problem continues.

  5. Turn off SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC)

Go to Settings > All Settings > General > Devices > HDMI Settings and turn SIMPLINK (HDMI-CEC) off, then retest TV-speaker audio on an HDMI input and on a built-in app.

You should see: HDMI devices stop controlling audio routing, and TV speaker sound returns or the issue is isolated to one input.

Extra tips

What to look for: Sound Out set to TV Speaker, any eARC or AI Sound Pro options, and whether mute or volume bar responds when you raise the volume.

Before you change anything: Confirm Sound Out is set to TV Speaker, not Optical, HDMI ARC, or Bluetooth. Note your current sound mode so you can restore it later. Unplug external soundbars or HDMI audio devices if you only want TV speakers. Do not pay for a remote “TV unlock” or share account codes with unexpected callers.
