How do I unlock a Garmin Venu watch that will not open widgets?
Answer
Force-restart the Venu with a long button hold first. If it unlocks but locks again too quickly, turn Auto Lock off in watch settings, then re-pair the watch from Garmin Connect on your phone if the lock screen still will not respond.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- A long button hold can restart the watch; avoid factory reset options unless you are prepared to set the watch up again.
Follow these steps
Force-restart the Venu
Press and hold the watch button for about 15 seconds until the watch powers off. Wait a moment, then press and hold the button for about 1 second to turn it back on.
You should see: The watch restarts and either unlocks or returns to a normal watch face or pairing screen.
Turn Auto Lock off
After the watch unlocks, open the watch settings and turn Auto Lock off so the watch does not immediately lock again.
You should see: Auto Lock is disabled and widgets stay reachable after you unlock once.
Leave the watch on the QR pairing screen if shown
If the restart leaves the watch on a QR or pairing screen, leave it there and do not keep force-restarting.
You should see: The watch stays ready for pairing from Garmin Connect.
Re-pair from Garmin Connect
On your phone, open Garmin Connect and add or pair the Venu from inside the app. Do not rely only on the phone’s Bluetooth settings screen.
You should see: The watch pairs successfully and unlocks so widgets can be used again.

Extra tips
What to look for: A lock screen that ignores swipes or button presses, widgets that never open, and whether Auto Lock is enabled in watch settings.
Before you change anything: Note your Venu model and whether the watch still shows the time or a QR pairing screen. Keep the watch charged during troubleshooting. Have the Garmin Connect app ready on your phone. Avoid a full factory reset until restart and Auto Lock steps fail.
