Why is iPhone call audio quiet when app videos still sound normal?
Answer
When videos are loud but calls are nearly silent, the earpiece path or call audio routing is usually the problem—not the main speaker. Checking Bluetooth, Call Audio Routing, and a quick restart often restores call volume.
Before you start: stop right away if…
- Do not insert pins or metal tools into the earpiece opening while cleaning.
Follow these steps
Turn Bluetooth off and test a call
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off temporarily. Place a test call and listen at the earpiece and on speakerphone.
You should see: Call audio returns through the iPhone, or you confirm the problem continues with Bluetooth off.
Set Call Audio Routing to Automatic
Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Call Audio Routing and set it to Automatic. Make another test call.
You should see: Incoming and outgoing call audio uses the iPhone earpiece unless you choose speaker or a headset.
Check in-call volume and speaker
During a call, press the volume-up button and, if needed, tap the Speaker button on the call screen to compare earpiece versus loudspeaker volume.
You should see: You can tell whether only the earpiece is weak or all call audio is affected.
Restart the iPhone
Power the iPhone off fully, wait about 30 seconds, turn it back on, then place another test call with Bluetooth still off.
You should see: Call audio works normally after restart.
Re-enable Bluetooth and retest paired devices
Turn Bluetooth back on and test calls with each headset or car connection one at a time. Forget any device that steals call audio incorrectly.
You should see: Calls stay on the iPhone unless you intentionally use a headset.

Extra tips
What to look for: Whether call audio is missing at the earpiece, missing on speakerphone, or both, and whether any Bluetooth headset or car audio is connected
Before you change anything: Confirm media volume works in another app besides Facebook. Note whether a Bluetooth headset, watch, car, or AirPods is connected during calls. Clean the earpiece grille gently; do not insert metal objects. Avoid paying for “mic repair” apps or unknown diagnostics downloads.
