How do I change the payment method used for Apple TV?

Answer

Apple TV charges go through the Apple ID payment method, not a separate Apple TV-only wallet. Update Media & Purchases payment details on an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or at account.apple.com, then retry Apple TV.

Follow these steps

  1. Open Apple ID payment settings on a phone or computer

On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, tap your name, then Media & Purchases > View Account > Payment Information. On a computer, sign in at account.apple.com and open Payment Methods.

You should see: You see the current payment methods tied to that Apple ID.

  2. Add or edit the payment method

Add a new card or edit the existing one with the correct billing address and security code, then save. If a card fails, try another accepted method Apple lists for your country.

You should see: The new or updated payment method saves without an error.

  3. Confirm the same Apple ID on Apple TV

On the Apple TV app or Apple TV device, open account or settings and confirm you are signed in with the same Apple ID you just updated.

You should see: The Apple TV surface shows the matching Apple ID.

  4. Retry the purchase or subscription charge

Restart the Apple TV app or Apple TV box, then try playing the content or completing the subscription payment again.

You should see: Playback or billing succeeds, or you get a clear Apple error about the card or account balance.

  5. Check bank or region limits if the card still fails

If Apple rejects every card, confirm the bank is not blocking the charge and that the payment method is valid for your Apple Account country/region.

You should see: Either a bank-side block is cleared or you know you need a different accepted payment method.

Extra tips

What to look for: Any exact error when updating the card or when playing Apple TV content, and whether you are signed in with the correct Apple ID on the phone, computer, or Apple TV device.

Before you change anything: Know which Apple ID is signed in on the Apple TV app or Apple TV hardware. Have the new card billing name, number, expiration, CVV, and billing address ready. Use only Apple’s official Settings screens or account.apple.com—not links from unexpected emails. Note whether the issue is updating the card itself or an error when trying to play content.
