How do I reset a forgotten PIN or Google password on a Samsung Galaxy S22?

Answer

Decide whether the lock screen PIN is forgotten or the Google account password is forgotten. For the Google password, use Google’s official account recovery on another device. For a lock-screen PIN, use Forgot after failed attempts if shown, or Samsung Find remote unlock before any factory reset.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • A factory reset deletes local data and still usually requires the previous Google account afterward.
  • Stop if a site or popup asks you to pay to unlock the phone or install unknown software.

Follow these steps

  1. Separate PIN problems from Google password problems

Read the S22 screen carefully. If it asks for a lock-screen PIN or pattern, that is device unlock. If it asks for a Google password, that is account recovery or Factory Reset Protection.

You should see: You know which credential is blocking you.

  2. Recover the Google password on another device

On a computer or another phone, go to accounts.google.com, choose Forgot password, and complete Google’s official recovery with the email used on the S22.

You should see: You regain the Google password or a working sign-in method for that account.

  3. Use Forgot on the lock screen if it appears

If you changed the PIN recently and the lock screen offers Forgot after several failed attempts, tap it and follow the on-screen Samsung or Google verification steps only.

You should see: The phone opens an official verification path, or Forgot is not available on this screen.

  4. Try Samsung Find before wiping

If the phone is online and linked to your Samsung account, sign in to Samsung Find on another device and use Unlock when available.

You should see: The S22 unlocks remotely, or Unlock is not offered for this device.

  5. Factory reset only after account access is confirmed

Reset the phone only if unlock options fail and you already can sign in to the Google account that was on the S22. After wipe, enter that same Google account during setup.

You should see: Setup completes with the recovered Google account, or you see that a different account is still required.

Extra tips

What to look for: Whether the phone shows Forgot PIN, a Google password prompt, or a browser sign-in error, and whether you can still open accounts.google.com on another device.

Before you change anything: Try Google account recovery from a computer or another phone first. Write down the exact Google email used on the Galaxy S22. Avoid third-party unlock sites or callers offering paid unlocks. Never share recovery codes with unexpected contacts.
