Why won't the Xfinity app update on an older phone?

Answer

On many older phones the Xfinity app update fails because the operating system is below the app’s minimum iOS or Android version, or because storage and store cache are blocking the download. Check the store error text first—if it mentions OS compatibility, you usually need a newer phone or the xfinity.com mobile site instead.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not install Xfinity app files from third-party APK sites—those are a common malware path.

Follow these steps

  1. Read the exact store error

Open the App Store or Google Play, try updating Xfinity again, and write down the full error or compatibility message.

You should see: You know whether the failure is about OS version, storage, network, or another store issue.

  2. Check the phone’s OS version

On iPhone go to Settings → General → About. On Android go to Settings → About phone and note the Android version. Compare that with Xfinity’s current app requirements listed in the store description.

You should see: You can tell if the phone OS is below the minimum supported version.

  3. Free storage and retry on Wi‑Fi

If the OS is still supported, delete large unused apps or files, connect to Wi‑Fi, then retry the Xfinity update.

You should see: The download starts, or you get a clearer error than before.

  4. Clear store cache on Android or restart on iPhone

On Android, clear the cache for Google Play Store and Google Play Services, then retry. On iPhone, restart the phone and try the App Store update again.

You should see: The store refreshes and either installs the update or repeats a compatibility message.

  5. Use a supported device or the mobile website

If the store says the phone is no longer supported, sign in at xfinity.com in a mobile browser or install the app on a newer supported phone.

You should see: You can manage your Xfinity account or stream from a supported path.

Extra tips

What to look for: The exact App Store or Google Play error when updating Xfinity, plus the phone’s iOS or Android version

Before you change anything: Note whether the phone is iPhone or Android and which OS version it shows in Settings. Free up storage if the phone is nearly full. Stay on Wi‑Fi for large app downloads. Do not sideload Xfinity APK files from unknown websites.
