How do I fix the Xfinity app when it will not update on an older phone?

Answer

On older phones, the Xfinity app often fails to update because the store requires a newer OS, the phone is low on storage, or the download stalls. Check your OS version and free space first, then retry the update from the official App Store or Google Play.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not install Xfinity from unknown APK sites or links sent in unexpected texts or emails.

Follow these steps

  1. Check OS and free storage

On iPhone, open Settings > General > About and note the iOS version, then check Settings > General > iPhone Storage. On Android, open Settings > About phone for the Android version and Settings > Storage for free space. Aim for several hundred MB free before retrying.

You should see: You know the phone’s OS version and whether storage is nearly full.

  2. Retry the update from the official store

Open the App Store or Google Play, search for the official Xfinity app, and try Update or Install again. If the download stalls, pause other downloads, stay on Wi‑Fi, and retry once.

You should see: The update resumes, finishes, or shows a clearer compatibility or storage message.

  3. Clear a stuck Android download if needed

On Android, if the update stays Pending or fails repeatedly, open Settings > Apps, open Google Play Store and Download Manager if listed, clear cache (not data unless support directs you), then retry the Xfinity update.

You should see: The Play Store can attempt the Xfinity update again without a stuck pending state.

  4. Decide if the phone is too old

If the store says the app is not compatible or needs a newer OS, check whether a system update is available. If no OS update is offered, use the Xfinity website or app on a newer device, or replace the phone.

You should see: You either update the OS, use another device, or know the phone cannot run the current Xfinity app.

Extra tips

What to look for: An App Store or Google Play message that the app is not compatible, needs a newer OS, needs more storage, or that the download fails or stalls.

Before you change anything: Note whether the phone is iPhone or Android and which OS version it shows in Settings. Confirm you have enough free storage for a large app update. Use only the official App Store or Google Play listing for Xfinity. Never share account passwords or one-time codes with unexpected callers.
