How do I turn off zoom when an iPhone screen is stuck enlarged?

Answer

This is usually iPhone Zoom from Accessibility. Double-tap the screen with three fingers to zoom back out. If that does not work, open Settings, then Accessibility, then Zoom, and turn Zoom off.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Do not erase or restore the iPhone for a stuck Zoom setting; that can wipe data and is usually unnecessary.

Follow these steps

  1. Double-tap with three fingers

Place three fingers on the screen and double-tap quickly without lingering.

You should see: The display zooms back out to normal size, or Zoom toggles off.

  2. Open Zoom settings if still magnified

If the screen is still enlarged, drag with three fingers to move the view, open Settings, then Accessibility, then Zoom.

You should see: You see the Zoom switch and related controls.

  3. Turn Zoom off

Turn off Zoom, then return to the Home Screen and open another app to confirm the size is normal.

You should see: Icons and apps appear at the regular scale and stay that way.

  4. Use search if Settings is hard to reach

From the Home Screen, swipe down and search for Zoom, then open the Accessibility Zoom setting and disable it.

You should see: Zoom opens directly even when the magnified view makes menu tapping difficult.

Extra tips

What to look for: A magnified portion of the Home Screen or an app that pans when you drag with three fingers, and a Zoom setting under Accessibility.

Before you change anything: Try the three-finger double-tap before changing other display settings. If the screen is too zoomed to navigate, use the magnified view to reach Settings by dragging with three fingers. Avoid erasing the iPhone; Zoom is a setting, not a broken display. Never share your Apple ID password with unexpected callers.
