How do I reactivate an old phone on PureTalk while waiting for a replacement iPhone?

Answer

PureTalk must move or reactivate the line on the older phone’s SIM or eSIM—Apple cannot do that. If the old phone shows Invalid SIM, contact PureTalk support from another working phone so they can reactivate the old SIM or send a replacement.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Erasing an iPhone removes local data. Back up first if you still need photos or messages from that device.

Follow these steps

  1. Confirm PureTalk controls the line

Check that the number is on PureTalk, not only tied to AppleCare or an Apple Store loaner. Apple can replace the hardware; PureTalk must authorize the SIM or eSIM on the phone you want to use.

You should see: You know PureTalk support is the right place to reactivate the previous phone.

  2. Gather the old SIM and account details

Find the physical SIM from the previous phone if you have it, plus your PureTalk account number or the phone number on the line. Note the Invalid SIM or other exact wording on the screen.

You should see: You can describe the error and identify which SIM or device should get service.

  3. Call PureTalk from a working phone

From another phone, contact PureTalk support and ask them to reactivate the old SIM or issue a replacement for temporary use while you wait for the Apple replacement.

You should see: PureTalk confirms the line is moved or a replacement SIM is ordered.

  4. Insert the SIM and restart

After PureTalk activates the old or replacement SIM, insert it in the previous phone, restart the device, and wait for signal bars and a carrier name to appear.

You should see: The phone shows PureTalk service and can place a test call or use mobile data.

  5. Plan the move back to the new iPhone

When the Apple replacement arrives, ask PureTalk again before transferring the number so the new phone’s eSIM or SIM is activated cleanly and the temporary phone is deactivated.

You should see: You have a clear plan to move service to the replacement iPhone without another Invalid SIM loop.

Extra tips

What to look for: An Invalid SIM, No Service, or activation error on the previous phone, plus whether you still have the physical PureTalk SIM from that device.

Before you change anything: Have your PureTalk account phone number and any recent SIM ready. Use another working phone or a landline to reach PureTalk if neither of your phones has service. Do not erase the old iPhone unless PureTalk asks you to, and only after you understand what data you might lose. Never share your account PIN or one-time codes with someone who contacts you unexpectedly.
