How do I regain Venmo access when codes go to an old phone number?

Answer

Use Venmo’s official account recovery or help form to prove ownership when you cannot receive texts at the old number. Do not use random unlock services. After recovery, update the mobile number immediately.

Before you start: stop right away if…

  • Third-party Venmo unlock services are often scams.

Follow these steps

  1. Start official Venmo recovery

In the Venmo app or on venmo.com, choose the path for forgotten password or can’t access phone number / help recovering your account, and follow Venmo’s prompts.

You should see: Venmo opens an identity or email verification recovery flow.

  2. Prove account ownership

Provide the information Venmo requests, such as email confirmation, personal details, or document checks, and wait for Venmo’s decision email or app notice.

You should see: Venmo restores sign-in or asks for one clearer verification item.

  3. Update the mobile number immediately

After you can open the account, go to Settings / profile phone settings and replace the old number with your current phone, then confirm the SMS code.

You should see: Future codes go to the new number.

  4. Review devices and security

Check recent activity, remove unfamiliar devices or sessions if listed, and confirm the recovery email is current.

You should see: The account is secured on your current phone and email.

Extra tips

What to look for: Sign-in prompts that only offer to send a code to an old phone number

Before you change anything: Gather old email, recent transaction memories, and identity documents Venmo may request. Use only Venmo’s app or venmo.com help flows. Never pay a third party that claims it can bypass Venmo verification. After recovery, add a current phone number and confirm email access.
