How do I reset a forgotten voicemail PIN on a Microsoft Teams phone?

Answer

In the Teams app or Teams admin calling settings, open Voicemail settings, choose Reset voicemail PIN, and create a new PIN that meets the length and pattern rules. Then sign into voicemail again with the new PIN.

Follow these steps

  1. Open Teams voicemail settings

In the Teams app, go to Settings > Calls (or Calling) > Voicemail.

You should see: You see voicemail options including greeting and PIN settings.

  2. Choose Reset voicemail PIN

Open the Voicemail PIN section and select Reset voicemail PIN (or Change PIN, depending on the Teams version).

You should see: Teams prompts you to create a new PIN.

  3. Create a strong new PIN

Enter a new PIN that meets the on-screen rules (often 6 to 30 digits). Avoid simple patterns such as 121212, four repeated digits, or simple ascending sequences. Save the change.

You should see: Teams confirms the PIN was updated.

  4. Sign into voicemail with the new PIN

Call your voicemail access number or use the Teams voicemail client and enter the new PIN when asked.

You should see: The mailbox opens and you can play or delete messages again.

Extra tips

What to look for: Teams Settings > Calls > Voicemail; Reset voicemail PIN; prompts that the mailbox PIN is locked or incorrect.

Before you change anything: Confirm you are resetting your own mailbox or that you are an admin allowed to help. Have an alternate way to receive work calls while voicemail is unavailable. Use the official Teams app or Microsoft 365 portal.
